澳大利亚历史 Australian History

本课程旨在培养学生对澳大利亚历史背景知识的了解,并培养他们的历史分析能力;帮助学生从历史的角度观察世界,并理解世界的存在是历史累积建构的;.在历史分析和研究方法中培养学生的批判性思维。课程内容主要包括从公元前6万年原住民历史以及欧洲殖民对他们的文化和社会的影响; 英国流放犯和淘金热时期的重要性; 华人的角色;“白澳”主义的发展; 全球化的影响;以及多元文化的兴起。教学方式主要有教师讲授、课堂讨论和课堂报告。考核方式:课堂参与(10%);课堂报告(30%);期末4000字论文(60%)。主要教材:Mark Peel and Christina Twomey, A History of Australia, Palgrave Macmillan, 2012.

This course aims to develop students’ background knowledge of Australian history and their skills in historical analysis and perspectives, further students’ knowledge and understandingof Australian history, including its long indigenous heritage, assist students in viewing the world from an historical perspectiveand to understand that its existence is historically constructed, and develop students’ critical thinking in historical analysis and research methods. The course includes Aboriginal history from 60,000 BC and the impact of European colonisation on their culture and society; the significance of convict and gold rush periods; the role of Chinese people; the development of ‘white’ nationalism; the impact of globalization, and the rise of multiculturalism. The teaching strategies of the course consist of lectures providing historical content and interpretations of events constructed around themes in an approximate chronological sequence, readings that provide further content andexamples of historical analysis and interpretation, and presentations by students on selected papers and their own essay drafts followed by group discussion designed to enhance discussion skills and ability to ask and answer questions. The students are assessed by class participation (10%), presentations (30%) and an essay of around 4000 words (60%).

This course aims to acquaint MA students of Australian studies with major Australian writers, their works, and the social, cultural, and political circumstances affecting the production of Australian literature.This course also develops students’ ability to read critically and discuss intelligently literary texts and cultivate their awareness of cultural differences and transcultural studies. The teaching strategies include lectures, class discussion and students’ presentations. Assessment: attendance 10%; class performance and assignments 40%; term paper (2500-3000 words) 50%.

澳大利亚政府及政治制度Australian Government and Political System

本课程旨在帮助学生熟悉澳联邦成立百年的演进和发展,更好了解和解读澳大利亚联邦政治。课程目标是培养学生对澳大利亚政治制度及其在澳大利亚社会中不断变化的作用和地位的批判性认识,思考这些机构如何应对新的挑战和旧的需求。本课程在详细研究每个澳政治制度的历史背景和理论概念的同时,从更广泛的角度进行比较性研究。课程结合学生陈述和课堂讨论在教师指导下进行。课程考核:1)学生个人陈述(20%); 2)三篇小论文(30%); 3)期末论文(50%)。主要教材:1) D. This course aims to help students better understand and interpret Australian federal politics by providing an introduction to its forming and evolution in 100 years since federation. The objective of the course is to foster in students a critical understanding of Australia’s political institutions and their changing roles and place in Australia society, or how these institutions have responded to new challenges and old demands. The course looks at each Australian political institution in its historical context and theoretical concept in a rather detailed way. Meanwhile, Australian political institutions will be discussed comparatively, in a broader perspective.The organization of the course combines students’ presentation and class discussion under the guidance or assistance from the teacher.Students will be assessed by 1) seminar performance (20%); 2) three small essay (30%) ; 3) term paper (50%).

澳大利亚与中国关系Australia-China Relations

本课程主要旨在使学生了解和思考,在澳大利亚整个对外关系中,二战后尤其是二十一世纪时期的中国和澳大利亚关系,并理解中澳关系和澳大利亚对外关系的研究者所运用的理论框架。教学方式:教师讲授、课堂讨论。考核方式:课堂报告(25%);课堂参与(25%);课程论文(50%)。主要教材:1) David Uren, The Kingdom and the Quarry, China, Australia, Fear and Greed, Black Inc., Collingwood, Victoria, 2012. 2) Hugh White, The China Choice, Why America Should Share Power, Black Inc., Collingwood, Victoria, 2013.

The course has the following aims:To teach students to know and think about China-Australia relations in the context of Australia since World War II, and especially in the twenty-first century, within the context of Australia’s overall international relations;To be able to present in class and in the presence of other students concerning issues about China-Australia relations and Australia’s international relations in general;To be able to write an analytical essay on some aspect of China-Australia relations since World War II;To understand some theoretical ways in which scholars conceive China-Australia relations and Australian international relations since 1990.There will be at least one hour’s lecture every week from the instructor and in the first weeks two. However, since student presentation is part of the assessment, it will be useful for each student to do one presentation during the semester, followed by discussion from the other students, and feedback from the instructor.The assessment structure is as follows:Student presentation in class, selecting a week themselves so that each student does a presentation during the last seven weeks of the semester (25%); Semester essay in 2000 words (50%); Participation (25%).

澳大利亚民族主义的发展Development of Australian Nationalism

该课程旨在为学生提供一个了解澳大利亚民族主义本质的机会,特别是了解非英语背景的群体,如中国裔澳大利亚人;探讨澳大利亚的种族主义问题;同时让学生在亚太地区的背景下,分析澳大利亚民族主义在当今的表现形式,并对澳美关系与亚太各国的关系进行比较分析。课程分为四个模块:帝国主义扩张时期、犯流犯和自由移民、世界大战和民族主义意识和世纪之交的澳大利亚。考核方式:期中论文(1500字) 20%;期末论文(4000字)60%;讨论发言和出勤 20%。

This course examines Australian national identity from a historical perspective. The subject issue is examined cross-culturally (with particular reference to non-English speaking minorities, including Chinese), through comparison with US nationalism and, finally, in light of current trends to globalization.It provides students with the opportunity to understand the nature of Australian identity and to study the position of the strategically significant minorities of non-English speaking people, especially those from China. It thus permits a significant exploration of a major theme of Australian popular culture, racism. It also allows students to evaluate the legacy of Australian nationalism in the context of contemporary Asia-Pacific relations and compare Australia’s relations with the US relations with Asia and Asian-Pacific peoples.The four modules of the course content include the imperial expansion, convict transportation and free settlement, world wars and national consciousness and Australia at the turn of the centuries. Assessment: mid-term paper: 1500 words, 20%; term paper: 4000 words, 40%; weekly written presentations: 20%; class participation: 20%.

当代澳大利亚社会问题研究Contemporary Social Issues in Australia

本课程在系统介绍社会学主流理论的基础上,引导学生在澳大利亚研究的框架下,深入了解有关社会化、阶级、性别、种族和民族、教育、越轨、健康、环境等丰富的议题。通过本课的学习,学生将对社会学领域有较为深刻的认识,熟悉有关现代社会及后现代社会的主要理论,获得从不同理论视角创造性地分析社会问题的能力,并通过与中国类似问题的对比,有效增强跨文化交际能力。本课还将帮助学生结合实例设计研究方案,灵活应用基本的质化和量化研究方法,独立得出自己的研究成果。授课方式以教师讲授、课堂讨论和学生报告为主,要求完成1500字小论文和3000字研究报告各一篇。

This course aims to familiarize the students with a series of important social issues, including socialization, class, gender, race and ethnicity, education, deviance, health and environment within the framework of Australian Studies. Through this course, the students are expected to gain a fundamental understanding of the discipline of sociology and major theories of modern and postmodern societies, acquire the ability of creatively using theoretical perspectives to analyze social issues, and improve intercultural competence through comparison of parallel issues in Australia and China. This course will also help students design research plans and use basic qualitative and quantitative research methods to derive independent research findings in the areas of their interest. The course will be conducted through a combination of lectures, seminars and student report. The assessment will be based on a 1500-word essay and a 3000-word full research report.

澳大利亚经济与中澳经济关系Australian Economy and Its Economic Relations with China

本课程旨在使学生了解澳大利亚经济的总体状况以及中国同澳大利亚经济往来的历史、特点和现状。本课程在向学生介绍澳洲经济的特点以及同中国经济互补性的基础上,重点讲授两国经济的异同和贸易投资上的合作。其主要内容包括:澳大利亚各经济部门的特点、财税制度、联邦和地方政府的关系、贸易制度、外资审查制度,中国和澳大利亚的双向贸易和投资,以及中澳自由贸易协定等等。课程旨在使学生了解澳大利亚经济及两国经济合作的历史和现状,培养发现、分析、解决问题的能力。授课方式以教师讲授、学生报告和讨论相结合,要求完成2000字的研究性论文一篇。教材:1)《澳大利亚经济》,黄梅波、魏嵩寿、谢琪著,经济科学出版社,2011年。2)China-Australia Economic Relationship, 丁斗著, 中国经济出版社,2012年。

This course aims to familiarise the students with the economic situations of Australia, as well as past and present of its economic relations with China. Starting with characteristics of Australia’s economy, and in turn complementarity with China, the instructor will dig into a comparison of the two economies and bilateral cooperation across the years in forms of trade and investment. Topics to be covered include: Australia’s economic sectors, financial and fiscal systems, federal v. state governments, trade policies and laws, foreign investment regime, two-way trade and investment between the two countries and the Free Trade Agreement signed between them. The course intends to equip students with skills in identifying, analysing and resolving issues and questions in their research, through in-depth discussion of major topics in this area. It combines lecturing, student presentation and in-class discussion. Students are expected to write a 2000-word paper at the end of the course.

澳大利亚女性问题研究Australian Gender Studies

本课程旨在培养学生在文化分析方面的思辨能力,特别是当代澳大利亚性别,种族和阶级的历史和结构的权力关系。课程模块是性别基础知识、澳大利性别和社会机构、 澳大利亚妇女解放运动史和研究方法工作坊。教学方法包括讲座、学生报告和课堂讨论。学生成绩由课堂报告(40%)和期末3500-4000字论文(60%)构成。

This course aims to develop students’ critical skills in cultural analysis, particularly around the historical and structural relations of power as they operate through gender and sexuality, race and class, in contemporary life and popular culture in Australia. The modules incorporated into the course are gender basics, introducing key concepts in the relevant disciplines; Australian Women’s Liberation Movement (after the Second World War to now); gender and social institutions; and research methods workshops. The teaching strategies of the course consist of lectures, which focus on the content, background literature, as well as a history of ideas on the weekly topic and workshop, which is composed of the students’ presentations and discussions. The workshop is intended to be more interactive, providing the opportunity to assimilate learning engagement. The students are assessed by their presentations (40%) and a final paper of 3500-4000 words (60%)

澳大利亚文学翻译 Translating Australian Literature into Chinese

本课程旨在通过翻译实践,提高学生的翻译能力,增加学生对澳大利亚文学的了解。通过阅读与翻译,扩大学生对澳大利亚历史、文化、风土人情的知识。课程内容为12篇不同时期、不同风格的澳大利亚文学名著节选。每篇大约1200字。每星期一次作业。授课方式以讲解作业、课堂讨论为主。同时视情况安排两到三次专题讲座,内容为“文学翻译经验谈”、“澳大利亚文学”、“澳大利亚原住民文学与儿童文学”。考核方式:以平时作业为主。

This course aims to improve students’ translation ability and to increase their understanding of Australian Literature through translation practice and literary reading. Students’ knowledge of Australian history, culture and customs can be extended through reading and translation activities. This course contains 12 passages from different periods and with different styles excerpted from classic Australian literary works. Each passage is about 1,200 words and there is a translation assignment every week. The teaching methods focus on the explanation of the assignment and class discussion. Two or three seminars themed with “My Literary Translation Experience”, “Australian Literature” and “Australian Aboriginal Literature and Children’s Literature” are arrangeddepending on the circumstances. The assessment for the courseis based on student’s weekly assignments.

本课程旨在提高学生对语言和其文化环境关系的认识,帮助他们充分了解澳大利亚语言特别是英语与澳大利亚文化的特点,并在学习过程中加强学生的思辨能力和跨文化意识。课程模块有语言与文化、澳大利亚文化模式和澳大利亚英语的社会文化特色。课程教学方法主要有以提供背景信息和多媒体素材为主的讲座和以学生为中心、以阅读为基础、以讨论、课堂报告为任务的工作坊。考核方式:考勤10%;平时作业及测验20%;课堂报告30%;期末论文(3000-4000字)40。

This course aims to enhance the students’ awareness of the relationship between language and the cultural environment it is used, help them fully understand the features of the languages especially English used in Australia and Australian culture, and improve their critical thinking ability and cross-cultural awareness. The modules incorporated into the course are Language and Culture; the Australian Cultural Patterns; and the Cultural Patterning of Australian English. The teaching strategies are comprised of two parts: lectures providing students with background information and multimedia materials and seminars which are student-centered, reading-based and discussion and presentation oriented. The course assessment consists of 1) Attendance 10%; 2) Assignment and Quizzes 20%; 3) Presentation 30%; and 4) Final Paper (3000-4000 words) 40%.

澳大利亚电影与社会 Australian Cinema and Society
